LOG 26: Here we go again

Hmmm, discharge talks… let’s pick up where we left off. Once again, once again!… the goose gave dreams of a golden egg, but would we finally end up with one? Finally, things were looking up. I was able to walk unaided, and this, along with many other welcome improvements, had made me able enough to be nearing clearance for a field test… in other words, I was almost cleared for getting discharged and going out into the real world.

It had been barely a few days into the discharge talks, and I was just getting my hopes up again, when yet again, it happened. What was it this time, you ask? Remember the Shunt in my head? Well, as luck would have it, it got blocked. Although as weird as it sounds, even though only clear fluid flows through it (CSF), It still managed to get blocked.  What did this imply? This implied yet another surgery! A surgery was required to replace the blocked part of the shunt.

But what happened that indicated that the Shunt was blocked? Remember the bone that they had put back in my skull? Well a day before my discharge was planned, it popped out of its rightful place and my hydrocephalus was back, with impeccable timing, as usual. The doctors tried for a few days to unblock the shunt externally. When this didn’t work out, they tried yet another Lumbar Puncture. But when even that didn’t work out, they finally decided that a surgery would have to be carried out to replace it.

So, it was on the 12th of February that I had yet another surgery. God! This surgery business was starting to feel like home turf, every now and then a surgery. Since I had stitches on my head and stomach, and both were fresh, mostly every possible human movement was not allowed. I couldn’t smile, laugh, cough, yawn or even eat in peace. It was almost like they wanted me to be frozen living frog who cannot croak. So what, I learned that ‘patience is a virtue” 🙂

After the surgery was successfully carried out, they once again made a discharge target of 3rd March… would that finally be just right, or would it still need some more adjustments?? Sorry, no spoilers, you’re going to have to wait until the discharge log 🙂
