Well, I suppose the title is self-explanatory. Till now school was just about settling in, getting used to and having fun in general, with the occasional game or two in between. But, as they say, “All fun and no work makes Smit a dull boy”. It was time now, time to finally shift focus on what we actually go to school for – education. Until now, our focus was all about safety, making a slow but steady entry into the world as we know it and so on, and we hadn’t even thought about my academic part of school.
I will admit that it was a bit of a quick shift for me because before I knew it, the intensity of school just went from a breath of air to a category-5 hurricane. Suddenly, school was all about studies and catchin up with the rest of my class and covering all the lectures I had missed (from last year and this year as well).
It was almost as though I was suddenly under the radar of every teacher in the senior section at once. And thank god for that, because I was lagging way behind everyone else and had a huge backlog to cover up.
I was suddenly working over-over-time, double-triple-shift, everything, you name it. I was studying round the clock. Apart from regular lectures, I was going to my teachers even during free periods to cover up portions. Then there were the stay-backs after school hours. And what’s more is that I had such a huge backlog, that the teachers even voluntarily called me in to their homes for extra hours to do the job.
Slowly, bit-by-bit, the train was gathering steam and we were speeding down the track at full momentum. And before we knew, I was back on the same page as the rest of the class. I was writing tests and exams like the rest of the class, and even doing my share of projects as everyone else in my class. We were getting closer and closer to the final exam of school life. And so, the flight had to be at running at optimum speed for maximum lift. Aborting take-off wasn’t really an option anymore. Would the plane successfully take-off this time or encounter some unforeseen circumstances yet again?? Stick around to find out, folks…
